Cannabidiol is one of the 113 cannabinoids found in cannabis plants and accounts for 40% of the plant’s extract. Hemp plants are high in cannabidiol.

Cannabinoids are the neurotransmitters of the endocannabinoid system. Cannabinoids influence these receptors that are located throughout the body and brain. There are two types of cannabinoids: The cannabinoids produced by your body are called endocannabinoids, and the cannabinoids produced by plants are called phytocannabinoids. The cannabinoids of CBD mimic the effects of the endocannabinoids that are needed in your body and help maintain a balanced endocannabinoid system.

The cannabis plant belongs to the family Cannabaceae. There are two main species of cannabis: Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa. Hemp and marijuana are classified based on their THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) content. Hemp contains less than . 3% THC, while marijuana contains 5-30% THC, classifying it as a drug.
